If you have added a Nectar card number to your Virgin Trains East Coast profile, even if you now book elsewhere, we advise that you remove it. Remember that having Nectar in your profile is the key measure Virgin Trains East Coast are using to measure the success of the scheme and has been quoted in a number of interviews about the removal of rewards.
If you think Nectar is better than nothing you should be booking through Great Western Railway or First TransPennine Express (via TopCashback) as they give points on all rail travel so you will end up earning more booking through them.
If you want to earn points for travel booked directly with Virgin Trains East Coast we advise you look at Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to see if it's of any worth to you, otherwise it's best to leave the loyalty section of your profile empty.
To remove Nectar from your profile all you have to do is:
- Log in to your Virgin Trains East Coast account and then click on the "Nectar or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club" link.
- Click the link entitled "Change my loyalty scheme"
- Select either Flying Club or "I don't want collect Nectar points or Virgin Flying Club miles" if you choose no scheme also check the box "Don't show loyalty scheme messages to me when I'm purchasing a ticket."
- Click "Update"
- Then you're done!
If you are booking direct with Virgin Trains East Coast it's also a good idea to leave a message in the reason for your journey box stating your dissatisfaction with the loyalty offering.
