You may have seen that the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, has made an announcement today about the future of Virgin Trains on the east coast.
The Government has been considering two options for the future of the East Coast franchise to ensure continuity until the start of the planned East Coast Partnership from 2020.
It’s now decided not to award a new contract to Virgin Trains East Coast, preferring to take the route into temporary public ownership instead. This will be disappointing to our East Coast colleagues who have done a great job over the last three years to transform services. The change will take place on 24th June.
Of course, here on West Coast it’s very much business as usual. As you know we run as two separate companies, so today’s news has no impact on our own franchise. Any questions, my team or I are happy to answer below.
